Dave Blair shows
We’re delighted to welcome Dave to our RadioHLR family and will let him introduce himself.
My love for music started at a young age when, for my 4th birthday, I requested “Yellow Submarine” by the Beatles to be played on the radio….and it was!
I progressed to music at our school dance in Scotland and an attempt at ballroom dancing at the Court School Of Dancing” in Lincoln, with my sister Caroline, which didn’t go beyond a few lessons. In amongst this my parents were part of a singing group, which grew from a trio to a five-piece band, playing oldies and popular music of the time. We were six kids in total and were their greatest critics!
My attempts at singing or playing an instrument came to nothing, so I started running a few discos, played music at parties and smaller functions with HLR’s very own Mark Rodriguez, whom I’ve known since we were both teenagers.
Once I started work, I was introduced to electronic music, the likes of Tangerine Dream adding another genre to the kinds of music I liked to listen to. I then ditched my own equipment and spent many years with my mate John and the Orange Oblivion Disco, travelling the length of the country and appearing with many stars along the way.
Once family came along, the disco work went on the back burner, but many years later when circumstances changed, I went back to clubbing with a good friend of mine Daran and we started learning to dance Salsa, then Rock & Roll and Ballroom/Latin. Not only did this widen the kinds of music I loved to listen to, it’s where I met my partner, Lorraine.
The dancing then expanded with 1940’s events bringing with it 1920’s to 1940’s Swing , Jazz music etc.
It’s impossible to categorise my favourite type of music, but I love Jazz Funk to listen to and I really like high energy dance music of all types to dance to.
I truly hope you enjoy the playlists I have put together for RadioHLR.
