What is HLR?
HLR is an internet radio station, originally founded by Andy & Patricia Mellett Brown in March 2020. HLR is now (from October 2023) operated by Martin and Di Davies.
HLR is affiliated to and supported by Heckington Living, a small voluntary organisation that publishes Heckington’s village magazine and is sponsored by the award winning Ruby’s Plaice. The station was originally established in response to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the idea being to mitigate some of the effects of lockdown by keeping people connected with each other, their families and friends.
Since its launch HLR has grown. Today we have several presenters with at least one live programme every day. The station broadcasts a wide range of music programmes 24 hours a day, every day as well as a church services each Sunday. We also have a ‘Live Lounge’ where listeners can choose to come together during live shows, to chat with the presenters and each other. RadioHLR and its ‘Live Loungers’ have made connections well beyond Heckington, extending the hand of friendship and goodwill across the country and, indeed, around the world.
Our listeners are at the heart of everything we do at HLR
RadioHLR exemplifies the community spirit that started here in Heckington and now broadcasts around the world, with listeners in many parts of the globe. We have presenters who are local, others who are in the south of the country, one on the Isle of Wight and at the time of writing (January 2024), in the USA with one more about to move to Spain. The station is run entirely by volunteers, on a not-for-profit basis. We are very definitely not a commercial radio station and you will not hear any adverts. Neither are we a pirate radio station. We are fully licensed to broadcast and play music. We exist, solely to serve you, our community of listeners, wherever you are.
Thank you for listening to RadioHLR. We know you will find your community here.
